GWM South Africa has finally introduced the Tank 300 to our local market. The Tank 300 aims to catch the attention of South Africans who love off-road adventures and exploring less-travelled paths.

    Design

The GWM Tank 300 boasts a purpose-built design with a sleek, angular profile paying homage to off-road classics while embracing a modern aesthetic. Highlighted design elements include round LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lights, an off-road front bumper with LED fog lamps, and a clamshell-style bonnet. The side profile showcases large alloy wheels with black fender extensions and a connecting black running board.

At the rear, it gets squared LED tail lamps, a door-mounted spare wheel, and a square rear bumper with tow bar mounting bracket and 12Volt power plug. The hydraulically assisted rear luggage door and standard spare wheel cover enhance functionality. The Tank 300 comes in five distinct colors: White, Black, Mars Red, Orange, and Grey.

    Off-road capabilities

The GWM Tank 300 introduces two unique 4×4 systems. The All-Terrain Driving System with Multi-Terrain Select is available on internal combustion models, while a unique all-time four-wheel-drive system with intelligent electronic management and low range is exclusive to the Hybrid Electric Version. The vehicle’s off-road statistics, including ground clearance, approach and departure angles, ramp-over angle, climb gradient, and wading depth, showcase its capabilities. Other noticeable features for off-road use on the Tank 300 include Crawl Control Operation (CCO), Tank Turn, Chassis View Camera.

    Engine and drivetrain options

The GWM Tank 300 is available in two drivetrain configurations. The Hybrid Electric Version combines petrol and electric power, offering a combined output of 255 kW and 648 Nm of torque. Equipped with a 9-speed Hydraulic Automatic gearbox, this version boasts an intelligent braking system for energy regeneration during braking. The petrol models feature a next-generation turbo-petrol engine with variable boost technology, delivering 162 kW and 380 Nm of torque through an 8-speed Automatic gearbox.

    Interior

GWM says that the interior of the Tank 300 is a blend of luxury and practicality. Interior highlights include dual 12.3” high-definition LCD screens, ambient lighting, leather upholstery, multi-function controls, and various charging ports. The practical aspects include grab handles, stainless steel door sills, rope hooks, keyless entry and start, and numerous safety features.

    Safety

Safety features across all GWM Tank 300 models include vehicle stability control, brake assist, anti-lock brakes, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and more. Passive safety features like airbags, ISOFIX anchors, pre-crash seatbelt system, and a rear emergency escape latch.
