Porsche has introduced the latest addition to its lineup – the new Macan, the brand’s first all-electric SUV. With powertrains capable of up to 470 kW, with Porsche stating that the Macan Electric Models redefine E-Performance, offering a harmonious mix of sports-car-like performance and environmental consciousness.

    Design

The new Macan undergoes significant changes. It gets sharper proportions and coupé-like lines, maintaining its identity as the sports car in the SUV segment. The brand’s commitment to aerodynamics is evident through the Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) system, contributing to a drag coefficient of 0.25.

    Interior

The cabin design mirrors that of other Porsche models, taking cues from the recently updated Cayenne and the latest third-generation Panamera. It features a fully digital gauge cluster with an elegantly curved display. In the center, a spacious screen operates the latest iteration of Porsche’s infotainment system. Staying current, the infotainment seamlessly integrates popular apps such as Spotify and YouTube. Additionally, there’s an optional passenger display and an augmented reality heads-up display. Traditionalists will appreciate the inclusion of physical climate control buttons and a volume knob on the center console.

Electrification brings about increased luggage space, with capacities of up to 540 litres behind the rear seat bench. The ‘frunk,’ a second luggage compartment under the bonnet, adds an additional 84 litres. For a better driving experience, the Macan introduces rear-axle steering, two-valve dampers, and up to three screens for advanced connectivity.

    E-Performance

Kerner, Vice President of the Macan Product Line, underscores the Macan’s ambition to be the sportiest model in its category. Porsche says it achieves unparalleled efficiency and reproducibility with the utilization of its latest generation of permanently-excited PSM electric motors on both front and rear axles. When it comes to power figures, the Macan 4 delivers up to 300 kW, while the Macan Turbo boasts an impressive 470 kW. With maximum torque ranging from 650 to 1,130 Nm. The Macan Turbo will do a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in a blistering 3.3 seconds.

    Advanced electric architecture

The Macan draws energy from a lithium-ion battery with a gross capacity of 100 kWh. Employing the newly developed Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with an 800-volt architecture, Porsche says the new Macan ensures swift and efficient charging. A standout feature is the DC charging output of up to 270 kW, enabling a 21-minute charge from 10 to 80 per cent at suitable fast-charging stations. The innovative HV battery design allows for efficient charging at 400-volt stations, reaching up to 135 kW.
