Land Rover has revealed the Defender OCTA Black, a striking new variant of its flagship off-roader that blends extreme all-terrain performance with an uncompromising blacked-out design.

    Bold and stealthy exterior

The Defender OCTA Black is a dramatic evolution of the high-performance OCTA model, distinguished by its extensive use of black finishes across the vehicle. Painted in Narvik Black, described as the truest black in the Defender palette, the vehicle’s exterior can be optionally finished with a Matte Protective Film for added durability and a unique visual edge.

More than 30 exterior components are finished in either Gloss Black or Satin Black, including:

Front undershield and rear scuff plates in Satin Black Powder Coat

Gloss Black quad exhaust tips and tow eye cover

Black Land Rover grille badge with darkened silver script

Optional 22-inch Gloss Black wheels or 20-inch forged wheels

Gloss Black brake calipers with Sentient Silver script

Even the underbody receives black treatments, including the cover for the exhaust silencer and the optional deployable towbar.

    Interior

Inside, the Defender OCTA Black debuts Ebony Semi-Aniline Leather and Kvadrat™ upholstery for the first time in a Defender. The high-quality, soft-touch material is featured on the vehicle’s Performance Seats, with a new perforation pattern and detailed stitching for added refinement. Seat backs and armrest hinges are finished in Carpathian Grey, while the Cross Car Beam is treated with Satin Black Powder Coat.

Optional Chopped Carbon Fibre interior detailing further emphasises the SUV’s high-performance character.

    Power and performance

Under the hood, the Defender OCTA Black is powered by a 4.4-litre Twin Turbo mild-hybrid V8, delivering 467kW. It features 6D Dynamics suspension and a specialised OCTA Mode, engineered for enhanced performance on and off the beaten path.

The vehicle also includes Body and Soul Seats (BASS) developed in partnership with SUBPAC™. These seats provide an immersive audio experience by translating sound into physical vibrations, integrated with the 700W, 15-speaker Meridian™ Surround Sound System.

    Latest tech and visual updates

As part of the broader Defender range enhancements, OCTA Black features:

Revised headlights with a new signature lighting graphic

    Smoked rear light lenses

A larger 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen for improved usability

    Exclusive availability and pricing

The Defender OCTA Black will be available in limited numbers, offered with pre-configured exclusive curations. Pricing starts from R3,979,500 in Mzansi.

It joins the broader Defender OCTA lineup, now available in new colours including Sargasso Blue and Borasco Grey, alongside existing finishes such as Charente Grey and Petra Copper. A Patagonia White Matte Wrap is expected later in 2025.
