Third-generation Audi Q3 Sportback: Sharper, smarter and more electrified than ever

The Audi Q3 has long been one of the Ingolstadt automaker’s most popular models, with more than two million units sold worldwide since it first launched over a decade ago. Now entering its third generation, the Q3 has been thoroughly re-imagined with cutting-edge technology, bold design updates, and more efficient powertrains – including a plug-in hybrid with a class-leading electric range.

    Confident and emotional exterior design

Audi hasn’t held back when it comes to design. The new Q3 makes a powerful first impression thanks to its wide Singleframe grille and sleek, tapered headlights that form part of its aerodynamic profile. Along the side, a sharp shoulder line splits the car visually, creating a striking interplay of light and shadow.

For those who prefer something a little sportier, the Q3 Sportback continues to blend SUV practicality with coupé-inspired styling. Its roofline dips 29 mm lower than the SUV version, giving it a dynamic silhouette without compromising too much on everyday usability.

Lighting takes a giant leap forward in this generation. For the first time in the compact class, Audi offers digital Matrix LED headlights with innovative micro-LED technology. They don’t just improve illumination but also enable customizable light signatures that give the Q3 a unique road presence. At the rear, optional digital OLED tail-lights with a full-width LED strip add a high-tech finish.

    A digital cabin

Step inside, and the new Q3 feels every bit the modern Audi. The cabin has been reconfigured to improve ergonomics and practicality. A new multifunctional steering wheel control unit frees up space in the center console and introduces two innovative stalks – one for gear selection and another for lighting and wipers.

For the first time in this segment, buyers can specify acoustic glass on the side windows for improved refinement. The interior isn’t just smart but also practical: the Q3 SUV boasts 488 liters of boot space, expanding to a massive 1,386 liters with the seats folded. Even the Sportback manages up to 1,289 liters, proving style doesn’t have to compromise utility. The Q3 also has a towing capacity of 2.1 tons, making it a versatile all-rounder.

    Powertrains

Audi has brought a wide mix of engines to the table. The range kicks off with the 1.5 TFSI mild-hybrid, producing 110 kW. Long-distance drivers will appreciate the 2.0 TDI with the same power output but added efficiency.

The real headline act, however, is the Q3 e-hybrid – available in both SUV and Sportback forms. Pairing a petrol engine with a powerful electric motor and a 25.7 kWh battery, it produces 200 kW of system power and offers up to 119 km of pure electric range on the WLTP cycle. Charging is quick too, with DC fast charging up to 50 kW supported.

    Availability

Audi South Africa is yet to confirm local availability of the new Q3 range.
