The Ford Ranger XLT isn’t exactly short on appeal, but fit it with Ford’s XLT Upgrade Pack and it transforms into something noticeably sharper. With a painted grille, sports bar and tougher exterior details, it feels like an XLT with a little more personality.
Exterior
The XLT Upgrade Pack immediately sets this Ranger apart from the standard model. It brings a painted grille, a sports bar, underbody protection and 17-inch alloy sports wheels. The changes are subtle but noticeable, giving the bakkie a bit more personality without shouting for attention. It feels like the right amount of flair for buyers who want something a little sharper than the stock XLT.

Interior
Step inside and you’ll find a cabin that continues to impress in this class. The standard 10-inch touchscreen remains the focal point, supported by physical buttons and knobs that make everyday use far easier than screen-only setups. The Upgrade Pack adds wireless charging, leather seats, a leather steering wheel and spare accessory switches. The result is a cabin that feels modern, comfortable and easy to settle into. We also appreciate that Ford still gives drivers proper physical controls. Sometimes it is just nicer to twist a dial than swipe through menus.
Power and drive
Under the bonnet is Ford’s 2.0-L single-turbo diesel engine delivering 125 kW and 405 Nm. Power goes to the rear wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission. It is not as eager as the bi-turbo derivative, but in everyday driving it never feels short of grunt. It gets up to speed without fuss and cruises comfortably both in town and on the highway. Ford claims 7.5 L/100km, while our real-world average came in at 8.5 L/100km, still respectable for a bakkie of this size.

Verdict
The Ford Ranger 2.0 SiT XLT with Upgrade Pack adds just enough style and convenience to justify its appeal, without trying too hard. The Ranger remains one of the more polished and user-friendly bakkies in South Africa, with a cabin that feels a step ahead of most rivals. Pricing starts from R681,500, putting it firmly in the mix for buyers who want a capable and well-rounded everyday workhorse with a bit more personality.
