Mitsubishi is marking 25 years of the Outlander nameplate with a limited-run Edition 25 model for South Africa. Only 10 units will be made available locally, positioning it as a collector-focused variant within the current range.

The Outlander first appeared in 2001, originally wearing the Airtrek badge in some markets. Over the years it has evolved from one of the earlier seven-seat SUVs into a more tech-focused family vehicle, while retaining Mitsubishi’s all-wheel-drive heritage.

Exterior updates

The Edition 25 introduces several styling changes over the standard model. The front grille receives updated detailing, while the skid plates front and rear have been reshaped to give a more pronounced look. At the back, the tail lamps gain a smoked outer lens that highlights the T-shaped light signature.

Lower bumpers and pillar trims feature a more durable black finish, and the model rides on unique 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. A power sliding panoramic sunroof is also included as standard.

Interior and technology

Inside, the Edition 25 builds on the Outlander’s existing layout with additional comfort and tech features. LED lighting has been fitted throughout the cabin, with capacitive touch switches replacing some traditional controls.

Leather seats are standard, along with an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory and lumbar support. Ventilation is adjustable across three levels. Rear passengers benefit from pull-up sunshades, while the centre console has been redesigned to improve storage space.

A 12.3-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, paired with a matching 12.3-inch fully digital driver display. Voice activation is included, and the Yamaha Premium audio system with eight speakers handles in-car sound.

Other features include a Multi Around Monitor, a hands-free power tailgate, reverse auto-tilting mirrors with memory, a frameless rearview mirror that doubles as a camera display, Type-C USB ports and a wireless charging pad.

Powertrain and drive

The Edition 25 retains the familiar 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 135kW and 245Nm. Power is sent through an eight-speed CVT, paired with Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control system.

With 210mm of ground clearance and six selectable drive modes, including Normal, Eco, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow and Mud, the Outlander maintains its focus on sure-footed performance in varying conditions. Claimed fuel consumption is 8.1L/100km.

Pricing and ownership

The Outlander Edition 25 is priced at R819,995, aligning it with the top of the standard range. The broader line-up starts at R759,995.

Warranty cover stands at 3 years or 100,000km, with a 5-year unlimited mileage roadside assistance plan and a 5-year or 90,000km service plan. Service intervals are set at 15,000km.
