Peugeot has unveiled its all-new 208 supermini ahead of this year’s Geneva Motor Show that is 30 kg lighter that the current model.

Completely new, the 208 takes after the stylish 508 fastback when it comes to the exterior design. It comes with a redesigned tiger claw motif and the top of the range models are set to feature full-LED. There’s also wheels options of up to 17 inches plus a black roof.

On the inside, the 208 makes use of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit, a touchscreen infotainment system in 5, 7 and 10-inch sizes.

Power comes courtesy of either a three-cylinder 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 55 kW or a four-cylinder 1.5-litre diesel with 74 kW.

The petrol 208 will be offered with a five-speed manual, and you can have either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed auto with the diesel counterpart.

According to Peugeot, there is a 96 kW 208 exclusively available with an eight-speed auto box.

Peugeot will again showcase its fully-electric e-208 with 101 kW and 260 Nm. That amount of power will enable it to sprint from 0-100km/h in 8.1 seconds when in sport mode.

The e-208 has 340 km driving range when fully charged. Good thing is, it takes about eight hours to fully charge it when using a 7.4-kW charger or 5 hours and 15 minutes when feeding on an 11-kW charger.

Where available, the new e-208 can recharge 80 percent of its battery in only 30 minutes thanks to 100-kW rapid charging. Peugeot guarantees the battery pack will still have 70 percent of its capacity after eight years or 160,000 km.
