It has been almost a year since the current generation Volkswagen Touareg touched down on SA soil and already, the flagship SUV is getting a powerful derivative, the Touareg V8 TDI which will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

From what we know, the Touareg has a 4.0-litre turbodiesel with 310 kW and 900 Nm of torque and that, according to VW, is the most powerful SUV with a diesel engine from a German marque.

    Atmosphere equipment line

Our local Touareg line-up consists of a 3.0 TDI V6 engine with 190 kW of power and 600 Nm of torque. It will take the large SUV do dash from 0-100km/h in a mere 4.9 seconds before hitting an electronically governed top speed at 250 km/h.

Buyers will have the option to choose between two distinctive design packages, Elegance and Atmosphere.

Offered at no cost is an air suspension, power boot lid, stainless steel pedals, 19-inch wheels, and the Light and Sight package with automatically dimming exterior mirrors and automatic headlights.

    Local availability to be announced.
