Kia Motors South Africa (Kia), a subsidiary of Motus Corporation, has delivered eight vehicles to charity over the past week. The donated vehicles will help with a number of social causes including the fight against Covid-19.

Six vehicles donated to SANZAF in support of food relief and welfare services

On 6 May 2020, Kia Motors donated three KIA K2700 light commercial vehicles and three KIA Picanto STARTs to SANZAF to assist the organisation in delivering food and other welfare support services to vulnerable communities during the Covid-19 Lockdown. All three K2700 ‘bakkies’ will be equipped with lockable canopies sponsored by Beekman Canopies, another Motus subsidiary.

“When the need is overwhelming and urgent, the best way to approach the problem is through a well coordinated plan and a network of committed people,” comments Gary Scott, CEO, KIA Motors South Africa. “It is through coordination, commitment and passion that SANZAF has achieved this, month after month, for the past 45 years. We are honoured to donate vehicles that will make this task easier.”

Under normal circumstances, more than 40,000 people benefit from their monthly food programmes – which increases to more than 130,000 people during Ramadan. The organisation’s distribution and project teams are always prepared to assist with emergency situations around the country – such as the national Covid-19 Lockdown – through food parcels and vouchers, clothing and other services that may be required.

K2700 to RADA in the fight against rape, alcoholism, drugs and abuse

In an effort to assist RADA in delivering food and other essentials to their various RADA CARE Homes during the Covid-19 Lockdown, Kia donated a KIA K2700 light commercial vehicle. The K2700’s lockable canopy is sponsored by Beekman Canopies.

“KIA Motors has a longstanding association of support with RADA and their approach to healing the broken for a better future,” comments Gary Scott, CEO, KIA Motors South Africa. “While we have generally been able to help RADA in the past with ad hoc use of our demo vehicles, the lockdown restrictions have impacted their ability to keep their care homes stocked up during the lockdown. This donation will help them to overcome that challenge.”

RADA is an acronym for rape, alcohol, drug, abuse. RADA operates a number of programmes and initiatives, including the “Adopt-a-Home” project that provides assistance to existing homes of safety for abused and abandoned children, people with disabilities, the elderly and the homeless through the provision of food, clothing, bedding, books and other basic necessities. The programme currently supports up to ten different homes around Gauteng.

You too can make a difference by supporting one of RADA’s upliftment initiatives. For more information on how you can donate or support, visit www.rada.co.za.

    Alexandra community

A KIA K2700 was donated to the Madrassah Ashraful Uloom in Marlboro, Johannesburg, to assist the organisation in delivering food and other essentials to the vulnerable community of Alexandra and surrounds during the Covid-19 Lockdown. The K2700’s lockable canopy is sponsored by Beekman Canopies.

“People are at the heart of every community, so when a crisis like the Covid-19 pandemic arises, it’s the people on the ground that will make a real difference in their community,” comments Gary Scott, CEO, KIA Motors South Africa. “We are happy that the donation of a K2700 will help the Madrassah to continue supporting the communities in Marlboro and Alexandra.”

Founded in 1995 by Moulana Luqman Wadee, the Madrassah is a community-based organisation that provides a broad range of services to the community it serves. This includes operating three Madrassahs (Marlboro, Edenvale, Alexandra) and a children’s home, as well as assisting widows, the poor and the needy. In addition, the Madrassah also supports prison services and education through seminars and workshops.

For more information on the Madrassah Ashraful Uloom, or to make a donation, visit their website at www.ashraful.org.za. The organisation is a registered Non-Profit Organisation and Public Benefit Organisation.
