Opel has revealed the new Opel Mokka which is set to make its debut in 2021.Forget what you know about the old Mokka X because this is a totally different crossover. Aside from dropping the “X” from its name, the new generation has also lost 120 kilograms making it lighter and has a battery powered motor.

    Exterior Looks

In terms of size, the second generation is 12.5 centimeters shorter than the model it replaces, and yet the wheelbase has been stretched by 2 mm and now stands at 2.56m. This was possible by reducing the size of the front and rear overhangs, while the width has increased by 10 mm to enable a roomier cabin. At just 4.15 meters long, the Mokka is now easier to live with in a crowded city with narrow streets, especially when trying to park, thanks to its friendlier footprint.

The new Mokka retains its minimalist lower grille with its front styling dominated by its solid panel between the LED headlights, which also feature Matrix anti-dazzling functionality, shielding other road users when high beams are used. At the back, there are narrow LED taillights and the crossover is available with an interesting contrasting roof and bonnet colour scheme, at an additional cost. The new Mokka will ride on 18-inch alloy wheels as a standard.

    Interior

Inside, the Mokka has a 12-inch digital instrument binnacle that displays vehicle information, while a broader 10-inch touchscreen digital infotainment system sweeps across the top of new Mokka’s centre console. Opel has retained some physical dials for heating and aircon and sound system volume functions. The luggage capacity of the new Mokka will slightly reduce by 6 litres and will stand at 350 litres. Additional features of the Mokka will include features such as a 180-degree panoramic rearview camera and advanced cruise control with stop and go functionality.

    Engine

The second-generation of the Mokka features a battery-powered drivetrain. The Mokka is driven by an electric motor that pushes out 100kW of power and 260Nm of torque, with a top speed of 150 km/h. In terms of range, the Mokka is powered by the 50-kWh battery pack inherited from the Peugeot e-2008 which has a driving range of 322 kilometers on a single charge, when the Mokka is driven in Normal model. Opel indicates that you can extract more range should the vehicle be driven on Eco mode.

    Availability

Opel indicates that the Mokka is anticipated to be launched in South Africa during the first quarter of 2022.
