The luxurious Bentley Bentayga SUV has been updated. News from Crewe is that the new exterior design adopts the Bentley design DNA that is now prevalent across the entire model range. The updated Bentayga also gets the honour of being the first model to be launched under Bentley’s Beyond100 business plan and its launch coincides with the milestone of the company having sold more than 20,000 Bentaygas.

    Exterior design

The new front looks draws inspiration from the third-generation Continental GT and all-new Flying Spur. The matrix grille is now more upright, whilst new headlamps with intelligent LED matrix technology include the signature Bentley design inspired by cut crystal glassware. A more angular front number is also introduced. The refreshed Bentayga also gets heated, wet-arm windscreen wipers for the first time and they come with 22 washer jets in each arm.

At the rear, the Bentayga sees more changes and we are not sure if they are for the better at this stage. They certainly do stand out though. The surface of the rear has been redesigned with a new full-width tailgate adopted. Continental GT like encapsulated lamps are adopted and feature prominently whilst the licence plate has been moved down into the bumper. Finally, a 20 mm increase to the rear track width is said to bring dynamic benefit and repositions the wheels in their arches to improve the car’s stance.

Newly designed wheels which are unique to the Bentayga are also introduced.

    Interior

The major changes in the interior are a new centre fascia and steering wheel, new door trims and all-new seats which are now available with ventilation in the rear of the five-seat cabin option. Practicality is also enhanced with rear legroom increased by up to 100 mm depending on configuration.

A new 10.9-inch infotainment display screen is introduced with all-new navigation with satellite maps, online search and other features. Wireless Apple CarPlay is standard for the first time. Rear seat occupants benefit from the introduction of a new, larger touchscreen remote control tablet, similar to that introduced in the all-new Flying Spur. Connectivity is further enhanced with the introduction of USB-C data ports and a wireless phone charger which is now standard.

The interior can be further enhanced with the application of dark tint diamond brushed aluminium trim for the first time in a Bentley, as well as two straight-grained veneers, Koa and Crown Cut Walnut, which are also new to Bentayga. Mulliner Driving Specification adds a new quilting design, and micro piping detailing is a new option for the seats.

    Engine

The updated model will initially be launched in Bentayga V8 guise with the plug-in Hybrid and W12-powered Speed versions to follow later this year. The twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine remains unchanged kicking out 404 kW and 770 Nm of torque.
