    All-new Isuzu mu-X revealed

    By Otsile Kadiege

Ever since its inception in 2013, Isuzu’s mu-X has offered consumers a good value for money mid-size SUV which competes with the likes of Ford’s Everest and Toyota’s Fortuner. Enter the much anticipated second generation Isuzu mu-X. With a tag line like “Originality Redefined”, the Japanese automaker is ready to set new standards in its respective segment.

    Exterior Looks

Up-front, the seven-seater SUV borrowed much of its design from the 2021 Isuzu D-Max, which it shares the same platform with. An octagonal-like grille with two horizontal slats are flanked by slim headlights which gives the new mu-X an aggressive look. A sharp crease above the door handles, which feature keyless entry, extends from the front to the rear fender. The rear features unique taillights and a skid plate emphasizing the mu-X’s off-road readiness.

    Interior

Like the D-Max, the interior of the mu-X looks premium with a touch of unique detailing to help differentiate it from the D-Max. A 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is fitted to the center of the posh-looking dashboard. The Thailand market will be treated with two USB ports and a 220V AC power outlet for the second-row passengers. The reclining third-row seats look better suited for children.

    Performance

As mentioned above, the mu-X is based on the new Isuzu D-Max. Powering the mid-size SUV is a 3-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 140 kW of power and 450 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission

    Safety

Isuzu has introduced a host of safety features including a segment first center airbag between front seats. Other safety features include radar cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert and speed sign recognition, to name a few.

    Local availability and Pricing

Isuzu SA is yet to confirm local availability and pricing of the new mu-X but we believe it will be launched in 2022.
