Volvo Car South Africa has confirmed that the T8 engine is planned for the Volvo S60 sedan that is due in South Africa this year. Responding to a social media comment by a Volvo fan, Volvo Car South Africa MD, Greg Maruszewski, said, “you will be pleased to know then that the T8 [engine] is indeed one of the engines planned for South Africa.”

Previously, Volvo had confirmed two turbocharged petrol engines (T4 and T5) as well as the super-and turbocharged T6 model. The T8 engine makes a whopping 250 kW. Volvo is yet to confirm the T8 ‘Twin Engine’ plug in hybrid model which boasts 294 kW.

The 3 Series and C-Class fighting S60 becomes the first Volvo product to be built in the USA, in a brand new plant in South Carolina, and shifts to Volvo’s SPA platform that all the ‘90’ models are based on.

The new S60 will also be the first Volvo to be not offered with a diesel engine as the marquee embraces electrification of all its models.

Most amazing news that we will be having the T8 model. This is an amazing design and definitely eliminates the stigma of Volvo being associated with old retired family men seeking saftey on the road.
