    New Porsche Cayenne GTS launched

The Porsche Cayenne has been nothing but a revelation for Porsche. Since the launch of the first generation back in 2003 it has been doing well for the traditional sportscar manufacturer. Fast forward to today, Porsche has added a Coupe model to the line and a V8 engine. Which is refreshing in the world where most manufacturers are downsizing.

    What is like to drive?

With the increasing uptake of SUVs, it was only a matter of time till that translated to faster machine 7s. The Porsche Cayenne GTS is a performance SUV that can do the normal family stuff expected of an SUV when required. It retains the 4.4-litre V8 biturbo engine that has power outputs of 338 kW of power and 620Nm of torque.  The V8 engine is perfectly loud and extremely responsive. The Tiptronic S eight-speed automatic transmission is smooth and accurate thus aiding the GTS in playing a dual role of being sporty and comfortable. While it may not be sports car numbers, the Porsche Cayenne GTS is breathtakingly quick and will sprint from zero to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds when using launch control. The steering is weighty but engaging, particularly for a large SUV. The Cayenne GTS naturally feels heavier than sports around corners than sports cars but is nearly as great in that arena and very fun to drive in tricky roads.

    Interior

Inside, GTS logos can be found on the front doors, door entry sills, rev counter and head restraints. The roof lining, seat centre panels, centre console armrests and doors are finished in alcantara. GTS models also get exclusive standard eight-way sports seats and an optional GTS interior package. On launch, we drove the Coupe and the rear headroom has not been comprised.

    Price and practicality

The Porsche Cayenne GTS SUV will cost R1,749,000 while the Cayenne GTS Coupe is priced at R1,839,000. Fortunately, unlike many of the models in the brand you don’t have to tick a lot of boxes to get the way you desire. It is not cheap, but it will provide some comfort in the wishes you had of getting the 911 before the family came along.  It is actually a perfect daily and offers sufficient comfort levels for occupants when they simply wish to cruise around.

All things considered, for its size, the new Cayenne GTS offers levels of driver engagement and enjoyment that one wouldn’t necessarily expect from a vehicle of its size.
