Recently we attended the launch of the Kia Sportage GT Line which sets itself apart with visual enhancements like distinctive rear LED combination lamps, chrome finished dual exhaust outlets, model-specific skid plates and 19-inch alloy wheels.

    Interior

Key interior features include a large panoramic roof, adjustable powered tailgate, a GT-Line-specific flat-bottomed steering, auto-folding mirrors, electrically adjustable front seats, seat heating for front and rear passenger, an 8-inch HD touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging and cruise control.

    Power

The AWD Kia GT Line with a diff-lock and downhill brake control for off-roading conditions, gets its power from a 1.6-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine making a decent 130 kW and 265 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

    Launch impressions

The Kia Sportage GT Line is a decent last act to the present generation Sportage with the new Sportage set to launch this year. The Sportage GT Line is packed with a lot of standard features, and this is impressive considering the price point and extensive warranty.

Naturally, the car offers a lot of interior and luggage space making it ideal for families. The large panoramic roof is a plus as not only does it seem to bring in more light but it helps with keeping the little ones entertained on long drives.

The turbo engine ensures there’s sufficient power to ferry everyone and their luggage along. Light off-roading is also on the menu with the all-wheel drive and a diff-lock on offer. For those who prefer to stick to the tarmac, the Sportage is a lovely drive on the open road. The concern is the brake travel which feels like it’s a bit too long. This requires you to be more attentive than you need to be.

    Pricing

The limited-edition new Kia Sportage 1.6 T-GDi AWD GT-Line retails for R649,995. The pricing includes Kia’s industry-leading unlimited kilometre / 5-year warranty (inclusive of Roadside Assistance), as well as a prepaid 5-year / 90,000 km service plan.
