BMW has revealed a special-edition for its compact “Sports Activity Coupe,” the BMW X2, dubbed the Edition GoldPlay. This special-edition model adds exclusive exterior details and special interior appointments like new model-specific colours, a wide range of drive options and extensive standard equipment.

    Unique exterior

The special-edition BMW X2 is available with a model-exclusive San Remo Green metallic body paint. It features mesh kidney grilles with surrounds and exterior mirror caps finished in Galvanic Gold. Eye-catching inserts in Galvanic Gold also adorn the 19-inch M aerodynamic wheels of the special-edition car. Its optionally available in 20-inch M aerodynamic wheels and likewise come with Galvanic Gold inserts. The surrounds for the side windows, window recess covers, B-pillar trim and embellisher surrounds on the C-pillar, mirror cover panels and mirror frames (incl. mirror triangle), are finished in High-gloss Black on the special-edition car. This also applies to the exhaust tailpipe finishers and border for the BMW logo on the tailgate.

Customers who don’t like the Springbok inspired look can also specify their cars in Alpine White non-metallic, M Misano Blue metallic, Sapphire Black metallic, Skyscraper Grey metallic and the BMW Individual paint finishes Storm Bay metallic, Frozen Black metallic and Frozen Pure Grey metallic. The Galvanic Gold side foliation on the doors and the front and rear side panels are another exclusive addition.

On cars ordered with either of the two matt Frozen paint finishes, both the foliation and the Galvanic Gold accents for the BMW kidney grille and exterior mirror caps are deleted. The grille surround is instead finished in Black and the mirror caps are painted in body colour. This design variant can also be chosen with the other exterior colour shades.

    Bespoke interior

Inside, customers are greeted with “Edition” lettering on the door sills with a surface structure derived from the BMW kidney grille’s mesh design in the X2 Edition Goldplay gets M-specific equipment features like M leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons, anthracite-coloured headliner, M stainless steel pedals, M driver’s footrest and car key with distinctive M identifier. It’s also fitted with Dakota black leather seats with contrast stitching and piping in Giallo Oro – a golden yellow colour shade, as well as other gold-coloured touches throughout the cabin.

    Standard Equipment

Its extensive standard equipment comprises items such as LED headlights with integral bad weather light, automatic tailgate operation, two-zone automatic climate control and a lighting package (including outside door handle light, ground lighting, exterior mirror lighting and door entry light, plus an “X2” logo projection from the driver’s side exterior mirror). Comfort, safety and driving pleasure are further boosted by Cruise Control with brake function, Park Distance Control with sensors at the rear of the car, Collision Warning with city braking function, Speed Limit Display with no-overtaking indicator, the iDrive control system optionally with freestanding 10.25-inch touch display and the optionally available full-colour BMW Head-Up Display.

    Performance

The special-edition X2 is available with a range of powertrains and transmissions, namely plug-in hybrid, petrol and diesel engines. The least powerful of the bunch is the X2 sDrive18i with 100kW/220Nm while the most powerful X2 M35i is powered by a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder making 225kW/450Nm paired to an 8-speed Steptronic auto transmission.

We are yet to hear from BMW South Africa on the X2 Edition GoldPlay’s local availability. We strongly doubt that the special-edition will be sold in SA.
