Great Wall Motors previews new Tank 700

Back in 2021 Great Wall Motors unveiled the Tank 700 concept. Just over a year later the Chinese automaker released a teaser image of the new Tank 700 in what looks like a top-spec guise. The off-road focused newcomer sports a similar design to the concept version and will join its Tank 300 and 500 siblings bringing the Tank model tally to a total of three models.

    Tank 700 exterior

As mentioned above, the Tank 700 sports a similar boxy design as the concept version. Highlights include a three-slat horizontal grille flanked by square-like housing for the round LED headlights, flared wheel arches, large 22-inch wheels for the top-end model, a fixed spare tyre hooked to the swinging tailgate and hrozotal LED taillights. The Tank 700 measures 5070 mm long, 1934 mm wide and 1905 mm tall and has a 2850 mm wheelbase.

    Tank 700 performance

Official performance figures are yet to be released, however it will most likely be powered by the same turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine found in the Tank 700 concept. It produces 268 kW and 450 Nm and paired to a 9-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Off-road capabilities are also yet to be announced but we trust it will be a capable off-roader.

The GWM Tank 700 will debut at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show in April and later go on sale in China. We hope GWM SA introduces the ever-expanding Tank models to the South African market.
