A couple of months ago, a new Chinese car manufacturer called GAC Motor opened shop in South Africa. The automaker currently only has two SUV models in their catalogue – the sporty GS3 Emzoom and quirky Emkoo SUVs. Pricing for the said models were quite competitive, however, GAC Motor South Africa announced a price reduction for the newly launched models. Here’s a look at the old and current pricing:

    Old pricing

    GS3 Emzoom Comfort: R469,900

    GS3 Emzoom Executive: R499,900

    GS3 Emzoom R-Style: R549,900

    Emkoo Executive: R599,900

    Emkoo Executive Plus : R659,900

    New pricing

    GS3 Emzoom Comfort: R419,900 (R50,000 reduction)

    GS3 Emzoom Executive: R439,900 (R60,000 reduction)

    GS3 Emzoom R-Style: R489,900 (R60,000 reduction)

    Emkoo Executive: R519,900 (R80,000 reduction)

Emkoo Executive Plus: R559,900 (R100,000 reduction)

According to GAC Motor’s local arm, the price drop is a combination of the better forex rate through the end of 2024 and GAC Motor’s commitment to the South African market through scaled global cost reduction initiatives.

So, what happens to the customers who bought GAC models last year? Well, GAC Motors Soth africa says, “in the interests of a fair and equitable relationship, GAC invites these customers to contact the distributor through our website or contact numbers to discuss any potential concerns regarding the price reduction and how they will be accommodated.”
