GWM has introduced the Tank 300 Diesel, a new addition to its line-up that enhances the model’s off-road capability while offering improved fuel efficiency. Designed for both adventure enthusiasts and those requiring a capable SUV for everyday tasks, the diesel-powered Tank 300 brings a combination of rugged performance and premium comfort to the medium SUV segment.

    Powertrain and performance

The new GWM Tank 300 Diesel is powered by a 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine, producing 135 kW and 480 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 9-speed electronic transmission, ensuring smooth power delivery and fuel efficiency. The model boasts a 3-tonne towing capacity, making it well-suited for hauling trailers, boats, or caravans. GWM claims the vehicle achieves a fuel consumption of 7.7L/100 km on a combined cycle, offering improved efficiency for long-distance travel.

    Off-Road capability

The Tank 300 Diesel is equipped with seven all-terrain driving modes, low-speed 4WD, Off-Road Cruise Control, and a Tank Turn function for better maneuverability. The intelligent four-wheel drive system with torque-on-demand ensures power is distributed efficiently, while electronically controlled differential locks on both axles can engage in just 200 milliseconds, providing optimal traction in challenging conditions.

The vehicle features a 33-degree approach angle, a 34-degree departure angle, and a 70% climbing capability. Additionally, it has a wading depth of 700 mm and 224 mm of ground clearance. The reinforced off-road chassis and chassis guard enhance durability, while the double wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension contribute to stability on rough terrain.

    Exterior and interior features

The GWM Tank 300 Diesel features a bold exterior design with a muscular frame, an aggressive front grille, and 18-inch chrome alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin offers premium comfort with full-grain Nappa leather seats, including heating, cooling, and massage functions for the front row. The driver’s seat is 8-way adjustable with lumbar support, and the heated steering wheel adds to the overall comfort.

Additional luxury features include 64-colour ambient lighting, dual-zone air conditioning, and enhanced cabin insulation with multilayer soundproof materials.

    Technology and infotainment

The Tank 300 Diesel is equipped with a 12.3-inch full-colour touchscreen infotainment system that integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 9-speaker Infinity audio system. Another 12.3-inch LCD screen serves as the instrument cluster, displaying essential driving information.

Other technology features include automatic LED headlights with Follow-Me-Home functionality and a wireless charging station for added convenience.

    Safety and driver assistance

The GWM Tank 300 Diesel has received a 5-star ANCAP safety rating and includes a range of driver assistance systems. These features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Additional safety systems such as Rear Cross Traffic Assist with Braking, a 360-degree view camera, and multiple airbags throughout the cabin further enhance occupant protection.

    Pricing and availability

The Tank 300 2.4TD Super Luxury 4×4 is priced at R699,900, while the Tank 300 2.4TD Ultra Luxury 4×4 is available for R739,900. With the introduction of this diesel variant, GWM expands the Tank 300 lineup to offer more options for customers seeking a blend of off-road capability, towing strength, and efficiency.
