OMODA has introduced a new version of its C5 compact crossover in South Africa, called the C5 X Series. The update includes several enhancements aimed at improving performance, efficiency, and practicality.

    Updated design

The front end of the C5 X Series has been redesigned, featuring a revised bumper and a new diamond matrix grille. The headlights and daytime running lamps have also been restyled. The overall design has been brought more in line with OMODA’s C9 model, launched in November 2024. Black-painted alloy wheels have been added to further distinguish the new variant.

    Performance and efficiency

The C5 X Series now comes standard with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), paired with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 115 kW and 230 N.m of torque. The new powertrain reduces the vehicle’s 0–100 km/h time by 0.9 seconds, now achieving the sprint in nine seconds.

Fuel consumption has also improved. The C5 X Series is rated at 6.9L/100 km, down from 7.4L/100 km on the previous Elegance and Lux trims.

    Chassis and handling improvements

The rear suspension system has changed from a torsion beam to a multilink setup. Additional updates include revised brake pedal calibration and enhanced cornering stability. The drive mode selector now includes three settings: Eco, Normal, and Sport.

    Interior and practicality

Interior materials have been updated, with new soft-touch finishes on the front door trims. The previous 15-watt wireless charging pad has been upgraded to a 50-watt version with integrated ventilation.

Boot capacity has increased from 378 litres to 442 litres with the rear seats up. With the seats folded, total cargo space now reaches 1,149 litres, 74 litres more than before.

    Model range and pricing

    C5 Lux X: R425,900

    C5 Elegance X: R465,900

These models are priced below their predecessors. The existing Street and Style derivatives remain part of the C5 range.
