Toyota South Africa Motors sells over 12 600 new vehicles in July

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) continues to lead the local automotive market with yet another strong sales month. According to the latest naamsa new vehicle sales report, Toyota sold 12 622 new vehicles in July 2025, contributing to an aggregate industry total of 51 383 units – a significant 15.6% increase from July 2024.

Strong passenger car performance
Toyota’s passenger car segment remains its top performer, with a remarkable 7 900 units sold in July. The Corolla Cross led the charge with 1 949 units, while the Starlet bounced back with 1 322 units.
The Fortuner and Starlet Cross also maintained their upward momentum, moving 984 and 757 units respectively. Meanwhile, the Rumion more than doubled its June performance with 757 units, highlighting its growing appeal among family buyers.
In the premium market, Lexus registered 84 sales, with the Lexus LX achieving a slight lift, underscoring the continued interest in hybrid-powered luxury SUVs.

Hilux dominates the bakkie market
As expected, the Toyota Hilux maintained its title as South Africa’s best-selling bakkie, with 3 120 units sold and a 26.8% market share in its segment.
Other top performers in Toyota’s LCV line-up include the Hiace (545 units) and the Land Cruiser 79 Pick-up (534 units). The Land Cruiser Prado also stood out with a month-on-month increase of 101 units over June 2025.
Hino continues its upward trajectory
Toyota’s Hino division had another positive month with 353 new truck sales. The Hino 500 and 700 Series jointly contributed 158 units, showing consistent growth in the commercial sector.
Strong Fleet and Business Sales
July also marked Toyota’s highest July business sales since 2019, with 3 740 vehicles sold through its dealer network to corporate and fleet customers. Models like the Vitz, Rumion, and Coaster each posted their best monthly fleet performances of 2025, reinforcing Toyota’s stronghold in the business segment.
