JAC Motors South Africa has expanded its popular T9 bakkie range with the introduction of the new T9 Hunter model derivative, created to celebrate the T9’s 24-hour endurance record at Gerotek Testing Facility near Pretoria. During the event, the T9 covered an impressive 4,084 kilometres at an average speed of 170.1 km/h, proving its durability and performance credentials.

    More power and torque

Based on the range-topping T9 Super Lux, the new T9 Hunter takes things up a notch with 15% more power and torque. Under the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre inter-cooled, turbocharged common-rail diesel engine producing 144 kW at 3,014 rpm and 487 Nm at 2,704 rpm, paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.

Since 1 September 2025, the torque output on all T9 Lux and Super Lux models has increased from 410 Nm to 444 Nm, improving towing performance and everyday drivability – especially for owners who frequently haul caravans or heavy loads.

    Fuel efficiency

Despite its strong performance, the T9 continues to impress with its exceptional fuel economy. At a recent JAC Motors fuel economy test at Gerotek, the T9 achieved 1,226 km on 76 litres of diesel, equating to 6.2 L/100 km, while the T8 managed 1,246 km at 6.1 L/100 km – both at a steady 115 km/h cruising speed.

T9 Hunter exterior and interior styling

Visually, the T9 Hunter distinguishes itself with exclusive Artav nudge and style bars, a tow bar, tonneau cover, branded headrests, and heavy-duty carpets – giving it a rugged yet premium appeal.

Due to overwhelming demand, JAC Motors confirmed that the Hunter will become a permanent addition to the T9 line-up, available in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations and across all eight exterior colours – Star Grey, Grey, Silver, White, Black, Red, Yellow and Blue.

    Pricing and warranty

The full JAC T9 range in South Africa is priced as follows:

    1. T9 2.0L CTi Lux 4×2 125 kW / 444 Nm – R549,900
    2. T9 2.0L CTi Lux 4×4 125 kW / 444 Nm – R609,900
