Citroën South Africa has confirmed that the all-new Basalt will join its local line-up, with the model scheduled to go on sale towards the end of the first quarter of 2026.
The Basalt introduces a new body style to the brand’s local range. It blends the stance of an SUV with the sloping roofline of a coupé, creating what Citroën describes as an SUV Coupé. The model will compete in the B-segment, which remains one of the most competitive parts of the South African market.

Developed as part of Citroën’s global C-CUBED programme, the Basalt is designed around the brand’s core themes of simplicity, comfort and practicality.
The idea behind the Basalt is to offer something slightly different from the typical compact SUV. It sits somewhere between a hatchback and a traditional SUV, aiming to combine the elevated driving position and space of an SUV with the efficiency and accessibility of a smaller passenger car.
According to Citroën, the Basalt will feature a distinctive SUV Coupé silhouette, generous interior space and a focus on rear-seat comfort. Ground clearance has also been designed with varied South African road conditions in mind.

Other highlights will include Citroën’s Advanced Comfort programme, modern infotainment and connectivity features, as well as a full suite of safety equipment.
The Basalt will join the recently updated C3 and C3 Aircross in Citroën’s local portfolio, expanding the brand’s presence in the compact passenger vehicle market.
Full specifications and pricing for the Basalt will be confirmed closer to its official launch in South Africa.
