Despite experiencing stock shortages attributable to production disruption at the Prospecton Plant in Durban, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) continues to top the sales charts. With an aggregate of 7,110 units sold – out of the industry total of 43,593 – TSAM registered a market share of 16.3% last month.

Notable performances in the passenger segment included Urban Cruiser (1,854), Starlet (1,264) and Rumion (276). On the LCV front, the Hilux as well as Land Cruiser 79 pick-up – recorded sales of 1,012 and 252 units respectively. Toyota’s truck division Hino sold a total of 267 trucks. Toyota’s niche luxury brand Lexus had an admirable run with a total of 45 units – including ES (14), IS (7), NX (6) RX (6), UX (6) and LX (5).

TSAM is also proud that it supplied no less than 1.4 million part pieces to its domestic dealer network, while a further 245,000 pieces were shipped outside of the country. Commenting on the July industry sales, the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) says: “The July 2022 new passenger car market at 31,455 units had registered an increase of 10,517 cars, or a gain of 50.2%, compared to the 20,938 new cars sold in July 2021.
