We recently headed to Cape Town to sample Merc’s new GLC. The new GLC showcases Mercedes’ latest design and incorporates cutting-edge technologies derived from its sedan siblings.

    Sensual Purity

The model range consists of the GLC 220d 4Matic, GLC 300d 4Matic, and GLC 300 4Matic. At the front, the GLC gets new LED headlights and a front grille, while at the rear, it gets new taillights similar to the new C-Class. The GLC comes standard with the Avantgarde exterior with the Chrome package, including chrome window surrounds and a new chrome-look simulated under guard. Wheel sizes range from 18 to 20-inches. We have to say that the new Mercedes-Benz GLC is a looker. We love the new design as it looks more refined than its predecessor.

    Posh, modern cabin

Inside, the new GLC adopts the modern design seen in cars like the new C-Class and some EQ models. Highlights include a 12.3-inch free-standing digital instrument cluster, a 9.3-inch head-up display, and an 11.9-inch high-quality touchscreen running on the brand’s latest generation MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible. It is a beautiful place to be as the cabin is premium, and head and legroom are plentiful. Additionally, it now has an increased boot capacity of 620 litres (70 litres more than its predecessor) for added practicality.

    Performance

At launch, we had the chance to sample the GLC 300d 4Matic, which is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine that produces a rather healthy 198 kW and 550 Nm. It sends its power to all four corners via a 9G-Tronic transmission. The GLC 300d feels very eager and has a sporty character that feels quite comfortable.

The new GLC has certainly leveled up from its predecessor in terms of looks, interior, and ride quality. A more in-depth review will follow when we get the GLC range on test.

    Pricing:

    Mercedes-Benz GLC 220d 4Matic – R1,124,312

    Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4Matic – R1,243,323

    Mercedes-Benz GLC 300d 4Matic – R1,323,894
