The current generation Ford Ranger was initially developed with electrification in mind. Fast forward two years later, the ‘Blue Oval’ automaker finally unveiled the all-new Ranger Plug-in Hybrid. The new model derivative is powered by 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that’s paired to an electric motor and a battery pack.

Ford hasn’t announced the power and torque figures yet but they did mention the plug-in Ranger will have more torque than any other Ranger. The automaker also confirmed that the plug-in Ranger’s batter pack will avail up to 45 km of electric range. Also new to the plug-in Ranger are new EV drive modes, re-tuned steering and a heavy-duty suspension.

Another noteworthy feature is the nifty Pro Power Onboard feature which debuted on the F-150 Lightning. This feature works like a generator. It allows customers to power appliances and tools which is ideal for camping, on-site power tools or in the South African context, charge devices during load-shedding.

Ford will soon confirm more details.
