Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) continues to dominate the local vehicle market, selling 9,743 units out of the total 40,072 vehicles purchased by domestic customers in June. This achievement translates to a market share of 24.3%, cementing TSAM’s position at the top across various segments.

    Dominance in multiple segments

TSAM led the Passenger, Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV), and Medium Commercial Vehicle (MCV) segments with market shares of 23.4%, 30.1%, and 26.4%, respectively.

In the LCV segment, the Hilux remains South Africa’s favorite bakkie, with 2,435 units sold. This includes 113 units of the recently launched Hilux GR-S III and 99 units of the new Hilux Raider 48V. The Hiace also contributed significantly with 381 sales, and the Land Cruiser 79 pickup made a notable impact with 258 units sold.

    Passenger vehicle performance

Toyota’s passenger vehicles delivered exceptional sales performance, with four models ranking in the top ten. The Corolla Cross secured the second spot with 1,578 units sold, 800 of which were hybrids, underscoring the growing popularity and high demand for hybrid models. This achievement further solidifies Toyota’s position as the leading provider of New Energy Vehicles in South Africa. The Starlet secured fourth place with 1,171 units.

Several of Toyota’s SUV models also showed strong sales performances. The Fortuner, a renowned SUV and off-road icon, claimed sixth place with 972 units sold. The Land Cruiser Prado rounded out the top ten with 694 registrations, including 679 units of the recently launched new generation. The Land Cruiser 300 achieved 133 units, and the fuel-efficient Vitz found 542 new owners during Youth Month.
In the niche luxury segment, 69 Lexus vehicles from across the brand’s lineup also found new homes.

    Commercial vehicle success

On the commercial front, the star performer for Toyota in the MCV segment was the Hino 300 series, which garnered 93 sales. The Hino 500 series came in with 64 units sold in the HCV segment.

    Parts distribution

On the parts front, TSAM distributed just over 1.3 million pieces locally and exported 277,275 pieces to foreign markets.
