The Omoda C7 PHEV feels like a statement. Not just a car, but a brand trying to prove something.
Design is where it makes its first impression. Sharp, futuristic, and unapologetically bold, it stands out in traffic not because it’s loud, but because it looks like it belongs a few years ahead of everything else around it.

The plug-in hybrid system is the real story here. It blends petrol and electric power in a way that prioritises smoothness and efficiency. Around town, it can glide quietly in electric mode, while the petrol engine steps in when needed. The transition between the two is mostly seamless, which is exactly what you want in a PHEV.
Performance is not about outright aggression, but the 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, combined with an electric motor and an 18.4kWh battery, produces a healthy 255kW and 525Nm. There’s enough torque from the electric side to make everyday driving feel effortless, especially in stop-start traffic.

Inside, it leans heavily into tech. Dual screens, minimal buttons, and a clean, almost concept car-like layout make it feel modern, sometimes even more so than some established premium brands, although the centre dashboard air vents remain slightly confusing.
Where it still has work to do is refinement consistency. Small things like software smoothness, intuitiveness, and long-term durability remain question marks.
At R689,900, the C7 PHEV is not just competing, it’s challenging the segment. It may not be perfect, but it’s bold enough to make you reconsider what “mainstream” should look like.
