Volkswagen will introduce the updated Golf GTI to the South African market in the final quarter of 2025. The new model brings more power, updated design elements, and a revised infotainment system while maintaining the characteristics that have made the GTI an iconic hot hatch for decades.

    Increased power and performance

The updated Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI engine delivering 195 kW, up from the previous 180 kW. It produces 370 Nm of torque and is paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission. Volkswagen claims a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The running gear retains key elements such as progressive steering, a front-axle differential lock, and the Vehicle Dynamics Manager, while the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with driving profiles has been further refined. Available modes include Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual, allowing drivers to tailor the car’s dynamics to different conditions.

    Exterior updates

The Golf GTI receives sharper styling with newly developed LED Plus headlights and a horizontal LED strip integrated into the grille. For the first time, the Volkswagen badge at the front is illuminated. At the rear, the updated LED taillight clusters provide a fresh signature look. Standard wheels are 19-inch Queenstown alloys, developed specifically for the GTI.

    Interior and tech

Inside, the Golf GTI introduces a redesigned infotainment system based on Volkswagen’s fourth-generation modular platform (MIB4). The system includes a 12.9-inch touchscreen with a new interface aimed at improving usability. The Digital Cockpit remains standard, and other interior features include sport seats with Vienna leather, red GTI stitching, stainless steel pedal caps, and a multifunction steering wheel with GTI badging.

Additional details such as a pulsing red Engine Start/Stop button and ambient design elements reinforce the GTI’s identity. Standard technology includes navigation, premium sound options, and various connectivity features.

    Chassis and driving dynamics

The GTI’s suspension continues to use a MacPherson strut front and a four-link rear setup. Features like individual ESC settings allow for adjustments suited to performance driving, including track use. The braking system consists of a 17-inch setup for improved stopping power.

    Launch and pricing

Volkswagen SA will introduce the updated Golf GTI with a Limited Edition launch model featuring a predefined specification and choice of exterior colours. Pricing for this launch edition is set at R908,000.
