Volvo Cars has pulled the wraps off its all-new XC70, a versatile SUV that blends cutting-edge electrified technology with modern Scandinavian design. What makes this model truly special is that it’s Volvo’s first long-range plug-in hybrid, boasting an impressive all-electric range of over 200 km under the CLTC testing cycle – the longest of any Volvo PHEV to date.

Built on the brand’s Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA), the new XC70 is initially aimed at China – the world’s largest car market – but will also make its way to Europe at a later stage.

    Modern Scandinavian confidence

From the outside, the XC70 embodies Volvo’s calm yet confident design language. Strong sculpted lines stretch across its profile, while a gently tapered roof and pronounced shoulders give it a solid yet dynamic stance.

Up front, a closed shield-like grille with an active shutter system improves aerodynamics and efficiency, while also echoing design cues from Volvo’s fully electric models. At the rear, the XC70 features signature C-shaped taillights integrated into the glass, creating a sleek, modern aesthetic.

    Premium comfort and versatility

Inside, the XC70 continues Volvo’s reputation for premium comfort. The spacious cabin is filled with smart storage solutions, high-quality materials and clean Scandinavian design cues. An immersive sound system and finely crafted details elevate the premium feel.

Thanks to a well-tuned chassis, large wheels, all-wheel drive and high ground clearance, the XC70 balances smooth on-road dynamics with the capability to tackle more challenging terrains – perfect for adventurous families.

    Smart connectivity and immersive displays

The XC70 is packed with intuitive tech. At the heart of the cabin is a crisp 12.3-inch driver display and a large 15.4-inch horizontal centre screen, designed to make multitasking easier. Buyers can also opt for a massive 92-inch augmented reality head-up display, enhancing the driving experience with immersive visuals.

Volvo’s intelligent infotainment system includes AI-powered voice assistance, smartphone integration and remote functions like pre-conditioning via the Volvo Cars app. Thanks to over-the-air updates, the XC70 will keep getting smarter over time.

    Long range and fast charging

At its core, the XC70 is powered by a long-range plug-in hybrid system that offers more than 200 km of electric-only driving – more than enough for daily commutes without emissions. For longer journeys, its efficient combustion engine extends the total driving range to over 1,200 km without needing to recharge or refuel.

The XC70 supports fast charging, reaching 80% in just 23 minutes. It also comes with bi-directional charging, allowing the car to double as a power bank for camping gear or outdoor appliances.

    Safety

Safety remains at the heart of Volvo’s DNA. The XC70 introduces Safe Space Technology, combining radars, cameras and sensors to monitor surroundings and help avoid collisions. Features like door opening alerts protect cyclists and pedestrians, while advanced driver assistance systems – including lane change assist, Park Pilot Assist and active navigation support – ensure a more relaxed, confident drive.

    Availability

The all-new Volvo XC70 is now available for pre-order in China, with European markets set to follow.
