Volvo Car South Africa has introduced the refreshed XC90, the brand’s flagship seven-seater SUV. The latest version brings subtle design changes, a calmer cabin, and updated technology while retaining the space, comfort, and safety that the XC90 is known for.

The new range includes mild-hybrid (B5) and plug-in hybrid (T8 PHEV) options, both paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The T8 plug-in hybrid offers over 70 km of electric-only range, making short daily drives nearly emissions-free, while still offering a combined range of more than 800 km for long journeys. The B5 variant combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 48-volt hybrid system to improve efficiency, delivering 183 kW and 350 Nm.

Inside, Volvo has refined the cabin with new materials, ambient lighting, and a more horizontal dashboard design. A new infotainment system sits at the centre of the experience, featuring a larger 11.2-inch display with Google built-in and wireless Apple CarPlay. Comfort remains a key focus, with four-zone climate control, heated seats, and adaptive air suspension across the range.

Safety remains central to the XC90’s appeal. The SUV continues to feature Volvo’s comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems, including Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert. The robust safety cage and extensive airbag coverage further reinforce its reputation as one of the safest vehicles in its class.

“The XC90 has always been a cornerstone of Volvo’s success in South Africa,” says Grant Locke, Managing Director of Volvo Car South Africa. “This update continues that legacy, blending the brand’s hallmark comfort and safety with new levels of efficiency and technology.”
