Ford South Africa has announced updates to its powertrain range, introducing the 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine for the Ranger and Everest. The changes form part of a broader refresh that will also see the 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel offered in more models, while the 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel is phased out.

The addition of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost gives customers a new petrol option known for its balance of power, refinement, and efficiency. This turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 222 kW and 452 Nm of torque and will be paired with Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission. It has been tuned specifically for the Ranger and Everest to deliver strong acceleration and smooth performance across a wide rev range.

Ford’s 2.0-litre turbo diesel has also received updates, including a new timing chain for improved durability and performance. The 10-speed automatic transmission, previously reserved for higher trims, will now be available on XL and XLT models as well. Meanwhile, the popular 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel will soon feature in additional derivatives, with more details expected in a future announcement.

According to Sunil Sewmohan, Director of Product Marketing at Ford South Africa, these updates reflect the company’s ongoing efforts to align its products with changing customer needs. “The 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine offers a distinct character, providing exhilarating acceleration and a smooth, responsive drive,” he said.

The updated powertrain lineup is expected to reach South Africa in the first half of 2026.
