Volvo has unveiled the EX60, a new all-electric mid-size SUV that marks the brand’s entry into one of the largest electric vehicle segments globally. The five-seat EX60 is positioned as a family-focused model and forms part of Volvo Cars’ broader push to expand its electric portfolio and market reach.

The EX60 is offered with three electric powertrain options. The range-topping P12 AWD Electric variant delivers a claimed driving range of up to 810 km, while the P10 AWD Electric offers up to 660 km. A rear-wheel-drive P6 Electric variant completes the line-up with a range of up to 620 km. In total, seven variants will be available to cover different needs and use cases.

Charging performance is a key focus for the EX60. When connected to a 400 kW fast charger, the vehicle can add up to 340 km of driving range in around ten minutes. Volvo has also confirmed that the EX60 will be sold with a 10-year battery warranty. In Sweden, the model will include three years of free home charging for private customers, with plans to roll this out to additional markets.

Underpinning the EX60 is Volvo’s new SPA3 electric vehicle architecture, combined with the HuginCore core computing system. The platform introduces new manufacturing and efficiency technologies, including cell-to-body battery integration, in-house developed electric motors and large-scale casting techniques. These elements are aimed at improving energy efficiency, reducing weight and lowering the vehicle’s overall carbon footprint.

From a design perspective, the EX60 follows Volvo’s Scandinavian design approach, with a focus on clean surfaces, aerodynamic efficiency and practical interior packaging. Exterior features such as a low front, sloping roofline and tapered body sides contribute to a drag coefficient of 0.26. Inside, a long wheelbase and flat floor allow for increased rear legroom, a spacious luggage area and multiple storage solutions.

Technology plays a central role in the EX60. It is the first Volvo model to launch with Google’s Gemini AI assistant integrated into the infotainment system, enabling more natural voice interactions. The vehicle also features a new-generation infotainment interface designed for faster response times and smoother operation. Audio is handled by an optional 28-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system, which includes headrest-mounted speakers and support for Apple Music with Dolby Atmos.

Safety remains a core focus. The EX60 is equipped with a wide array of sensors that continuously monitor the vehicle’s surroundings. It also introduces Volvo’s multi-adaptive safety belt, designed to offer more personalised protection for front occupants. The vehicle’s structure incorporates a reinforced safety cage using boron steel, while software-driven safety systems are designed to improve over time through over-the-air updates.

The Volvo EX60 is now available to order in selected European markets, with the United States expected to follow later in the year. Production begins this spring at Volvo’s manufacturing facility in Sweden. Customer deliveries of the P6 and P10 variants are scheduled to start in summer, with the P12 variant following shortly thereafter. Volvo Car South Africa has confirmed that the EX60 is scheduled to arrive in the local market around the middle to latter part of the third quarter this year.
