While we’re still waiting for the Volkswagen Golf R challenging A35 hatchback, Mercedes-AMG has revealed its new CLA35 sedan to rival Audi’s S3 sedan.

Packing 225 kW of power and 400 Nm of torque from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot engine, the sedan dashes from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. Transmission comes courtesy of a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that routes the output to an all-wheel-drive system.

On the outside, it comes standard with 18-inch wheels, but forking out more money gets you the 19-inch alloys. It features a diffuser with a pair of circular exhaust outlets – one on each side.

Adaptive dampers come as an option while aluminium shear panel underneath the engine for more stiffness come standard. The AMG model’s interior comes with the MBUX system (Hey Mercedes!) that features 10.25-inch screens for the instruments and infotainment duties.

It gains three AMG-specific display modes: Classic, Sport and Supersport. Buyers can opt for two-tone cabin layout, like a mix of black and red or black and digital grey. The 64-color LED ambient lighting lets customers find a hue that fits their mood.

The CLA 35 will make a public premiere at the New York Auto Show later this month. Pricing and more details to be made clear soon.
