Having recently announced that the T-Cross SUV is coming South Africa, VW SA has now confirmed the engines for the T-Cross range.

Based on the same MQB platform as the Polo, the T-Cross joins the Touareg and Tiguan in the expanding local VW SUV line-up. The T-Cross slots below the Tiguan.

In terms of dimensions,  the T-Cross is 4,237mm long, 1,584mm metres high and boasts a 2,551mm wheelbase. This translates to a decent 455 litres worth of boot space which expands when back seats are folded down.

The T-Cross will be available with optional LED headlights and wheel sizes of up to 18 inches. The interior of the T-Cross is similar to that of the new Polo and will be offered with optional Active Info Display.

The T-Cross will be available in three engines: the 1.0 TSI turbocharged petrol engine with an output of 85kW, the 1.5 TSI three-cylinder engine with 110kW and finally, the 1.0 TSI with 70kW.  On launch (third quarter), the 1.0 TSI will be immediately available, while the 1.5 TSI turbocharged will make its debut in fourth quarter and the entry level 1.0TSI 70 kW engine will ride into the country in the first quarter of 2020.

The three-cylinder 1.5 TSI will be paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission and this will translate to a 0-100km/h sprint in 10.2 seconds thanks also to its 200Nm of torque. Its claimed fuel consumption is 4.9 litres/100km.
