Mercedes-Benz has taken the covers off its next generation GLE Coupé. The line-up consists of the 350d, 400d and the range topping GLE53 (at least for now).

    Engines

The diesel models will feature a six-cylinder engine that will see the GLE350d generate 200kW and 600Nm, whilst the GLE400d will kick out 243kW and 700Nm of torque.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE53 will feature a 3.0-litre six-cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine that offers 320kW and 520Nm. Its EQ Boost starter-alternator delivers an additional 16 kW and 250 Nm of torque for a short period, and also feeds the 48 volt onboard electrical system. All of this will see the GLE53 do the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.3 seconds and accelerate to a top speed of 250kmh. A plug-in-hybrid model will come at a later stage.

    Transmission

The GLE models will have power delivered to all the wheels with the assistance of a nine-speed automatic transmission. The GLE53 4MATIC+ Coupé gets an AMG SpeedShift TCT (Torque Clutch Transmission). This will ensure that upward and downward shifts are implemented almost instantly, especially in “sports” mode.

    A bigger GLE Coupé

Besides all the engine improvements, the GLE Coupé grows in length and width. It is 39 mm longer and 7 mm wider than its predecessor. It remains 60 mm shorter than the GLE SUV but the wheelbase of the new GLE Coupé grows by 20 mm more than its predecessor.

The entrance dimensions have also been enlarged by 35 mm and the stowage spaces in the interior have been increased by a total of 40-litres. The boot space stands at a claimed 655 litres and increases to up to 1,790 litres with the rear seat folded down. This is 70 litres more than its predecessor. And just like the new models from Mercedes Benz the GLE Coupé gets MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience aka ‘Hey Mercedes’) with its infotainment system which works via a 12.3-inch screens.

Local availability and pricing is yet to be announced.
