Refreshed E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet break cover

Having revealed Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan in March this year, Mercedes-Benz has now taken covers off the updated E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet.  The refreshed pair will come with a new look, updated interior, new engine derivatives and state-of-the-art safety features to match.

    Exterior

As with the E-Class Sedan, the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet base models come with a central star in the “A-shaped” design of the new diamond radiator grille. While the front end also has a new increased chrome content that plays a big part in the fresh look. The all-LED headlamps have been given flatter housings, while the interior of the LED tail lights has been reworked. LED headlamps come as standard in all models.

New four paint colours are available for the E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet: high-tech silver, graphite grey metallic, mojave silver and patagonia red (designo). The wheel line-up has also been expanded and now includes aero wheels whose special design features of which help contribute to saving fuel and thus to sustainability.

    Interior

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet are now fitted with an entirely new steering wheel as part of the model update. It will be available in three versions: as an all-leather steering wheel, in wood-leather combination and a supersport version. It also be equipped the latest generation of MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). As standard, it includes two large tablet 10.25-inch screens, for a widescreen view. Two 12.3-inch screens are optionally available. The infotainment also has a bag of standard features to supplement it. They include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and wireless charging for smartphones. There will also be a new touchpad in the center console and increased interior upholstery options.

The new E-Class will be fitted with noticeable safety features or driver assistance systems that include attention assist, brake assists, blind spot assist, active lane keep assist and a 360-degree camera.

    Enhanced security

In conjunction with Mercedes me, the two packages URBAN GUARD Vehicle Protection and URBAN GUARD Vehicle Protection Plus enable all-round monitoring of the parked vehicle. URBAN GUARD comprises an anti-theft alarm system, tow-away protection with visual and audible warning in the case of a detected change in position, an alarm siren, interior monitoring (triggers in the case of movements in the interior) as well as a preinstallation for theft and parking collision detection. In the case of the latter, the vehicle sensors register when the parked and locked vehicle is bumped or towed – or when someone attempts to break into the vehicle. If the service is active, the driver receives detailed information via the Mercedes me App. By means of push notification, he finds out, for example, how severe and in which area of the vehicle the parking damage is. As soon as the vehicle is restarted, this information is also shown once on the media display.

In addition, URBAN GUARD Vehicle Protection Plus offers a function for pinpointing the position of stolen vehicles. In the case of theft, this also makes it possible to recover the vehicle even if the thief has deactivated the vehicle tracking function. This takes place in cooperation with police.

    Engines

Three diesel and 4 petrol engines are available in updated range. Various engines in the range benefit from a 48-volt on-board partial electrical system. A recuperation function and the ability to “glide” with the engine switched off is said to make the engines even more efficient.

Power on offer ranges from 143 /194 kW to 270 /367 kW in the non-AMG models. Notably, the E$50 swaps the 3.0-liter V6 for a 269 kW 3.0-liter inline-six engine with EQ Boost. Sitting at the top of the range is an E53 AMG. Powered by a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder in-line engine with exhaust gas turbocharger and electric additional compressor, the E53 AMG will churn out power outputs of 320kW and 520Nm of torque. The power is distrusted to all the wheels thanks to the AMG performance 4Matic+. The E53 AMG will sprint to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds in the Coupe and 4,6 seconds in the Cabriolet. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h in both AMGs. This is largely thanks to the EQ boost system that generates power to the 48V on-board electrical system.  The electrical system can generate up to 16kW and 250Nm for a short period.
