Recently Ferrari shared limited information of a special edition 812 Superfast, the Maranello based automaker has finally unveiled full details of a car they call the 812 Competizione and 812 Competizione A (Targa version) after a live stream event which was held in the new GT Sporting Activities Department located next to the Fiorano track.

    V12 Power

Powering the duo is a re-engineered, multi-award winning 6.5-litre V12 engine derived from the 812 Superfast. The high-revving engine churns 610 kW of power at 9,250 rpm and 692 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Both are paired to a 7-speed DCT gearbox and will sprint from 0-100 km/h 2.85 seconds, and will run out of steam at 340 km/h. The most significant changes to the powerplant are to the distribution and the cylinder heads, which have both been completely redesigned. The cams (which now feature DLC coating) now action the valve stems via DLC-coated steel sliding finger followers, which are derived from Ferrari’s F1 experience and were developed specifically for this engine to provide a higher lift profile.

Stopping power is provided by new front “Aero” calipers which debuted on the SF90 Stradale and which has an air intake integrated into its casting. The front brakes measures are 398 mm x 223 x 38 mm and 360 mm x 233 x 32 mm at the rear.

The 4,696 mm long 812 Competizione has been equipped with independent four-wheel steering, version 7.0 of the Side Slip Control (SSC) system and new Michelin Cup2R tyres in order for Ferrari to boost the 812 Competizione’s overall performance levels, improve driving pleasure in lateral dynamics and handling characteristics.

    Design

Its styling doesn’t only create visual drama but it’s also functional thanks to the central ‘blade’ with vents on either side which provides cooling, two carbon-fibre side air intakes for the brakes flank the main grille, rear diffuser for increased downforce, carbon-fibre wheels which reduce the weight by 3.7 kg, higher rear spoiler for more downforce and patented vortex generating rear screen. The latter isn’t available on the 812 Competizione but a bridge element has been introduced between the flying buttresses to compensate for the impact of the removal of the vortex generators.

Fans of the prancing horse will be delighted to know that the 812 Competizione delivers a soul soothing exhaust note despite being equipped with GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter) to the exhaust system that ensures compliance with the very latest emissions regulations. Fuel-consumption of the 812 Competizion isn’t available because it’s under homologation.
