MINI has announced that it is celebrating 60 years of collaborating with the Cooper Family by offering limited edition models, namely the MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper S and MINI John Cooper Works. The limited edition models have exclusive design and equipment features. Only 740 units will be built worldwide and only 6 MINI John Cooper Works Anniversary Edition are destined for South Africa.

    Exterior

Prominent exterior features of the Anniversary Edition models include a “COOPER” name logo on the side scuttles and C-pillars, white bonnet stripes and a red accent line, a number 74 decal on the bonnet, and doors of the vehicles, which refers to the number of units available in this edition, as well as the number worn by the classic Mini Cooper on its first successful race track appearance.

The MINI Anniversary Edition is fitted with 18-inch John Cooper Works light-alloy wheels in Circuit Spoke 2-tone design and offered in British Racing Green metallic and Rebel Green, as well as Midnight Black metallic. All paint finishes are combined with a roof, exterior mirror caps, door handles and surrounds for the headlights and rear lights in white. Other exterior trim elements are offered in Piano Black high gloss.

The exclusive and sporty look of the edition vehicle can be rounded off with selected retrofit options from the Original MINI Accessories range.

    Interior

The interior equipment of the edition includes the “COOPER” name logo on the door sill trims and on the C-pillars and on the center spoke of the Nappa sports leather steering wheel.  The Anniversary Edition models have John Cooper Works sports seats in Dinamica/leather Carbon Black finish, an anthracite-coloured headliner, stainless steel pedal set and interior trim in Piano Black high-gloss.

The red ring from the original John Cooper logo adorns the luggage compartment lid and the interior surface on the passenger side. On the driver’s side, the interior surface features the signatures of John, Mike and Charlie Cooper. As a further indication of the exclusive character of the edition, the inside of the driver’s door frame features an emblem with John Cooper’s signature, the handwritten note “1 of 740” and the words “60 YEARS OF MINI COOPER – THE UNEXPECTED UNDERDOG”.

    Performance

The special edition MINI John Cooper Works is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine making 170 kW and 320 Nm. The MINI John Cooper Works Anniversary Edition sprints from 0 – 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 246 km/h. MINI claims a combined fuel consumption of 6.3 litres/100 km.

    Availability

As mentioned above, only 6 MINI John Cooper Works Anniversary Editions are destined for South Africa and will be available here from 4th quarter of 2021.
