    Driven: BMW 2 Series

    Women Crush Wednesday anyone? The BMW 220i is a practical and fun coupe, and frankly all you’ll need if you are looking for something exciting that is also user friendly. #bmw2series #2Series #220i #bmwfans #womancrushwednesday #wednesday #humpday #sheerdrivingpleasure #photography #carphotography #coupe #wcw #travel #city 📸 @benjaminthecreative for @khulekani_on_wheels

For most a coupe is not always an easy sell. Many are paralysed by the lack of back doors and usually a smaller boot space when considering this option. It gets complicated when the coupe option is actually based on a compact car. The BMW 2 Series is essentially the Coupe version of the BMW 1 Series. It is also the smallest coupe in the range. We spent some time with the BMW 220i and we were pleasantly surprised.

The 2 Series is practical. There is ample space for the drive and the back passengers. The seats are comfortable and the 390-litres boot space is fair. You will be able to do groceries with relative ease and pack enough luggage for a shot left. The back seats can be folded down so as to extend the load space. The interior quality is what you would expect from BMW, with quality materials dominating the dash. The 8-inch touchscreen in our unit had the optional Navigation system Professional that we have grown to admire due to its ease of use and accuracy.  Another exciting feature is the optional inductive charging tray for wireless charging.

The exterior design of the 2 Series is simple yet very elegant. The distinctive grille, generous air intakes and bi-LED headlights make the 2 Series appear sporty and ready to take on the city for some fun. The pronounced lines on the side give the 2 series sporty stance. At the back, the L-shaped rear LED lights ensure that the sporty and fun theme resonates throughout the exterior.

Our 220i test unit develops 135 kW of power and 270 Nm of torque. This gives the 220i 0-100 km/h acceleration under 7 seconds. Not terribly quick but sufficient for the good looking 220i. We managed a fuel consumption of around 7.2l/100 km in our time spent with the 220i. Overall, the drive is comfortable, engaging and fun. You will be pleased that the 220i is practical enough to live with yet also thoroughly enjoyable from a performance point of view.

The BMW 220i is priced from R528,684.
