Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) managed to sell a total of 8,320 vehicles in July 2021 despite the civil unrest that engulfed KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng which in turn hampered business operations at its Prospecton Plant for about a week, while operations at many dealerships had to be suspended.

The Hilux as well as its reliable ally in the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment, Hiace, that led Toyota sales with 2,836 and 1,205 apiece. The passenger segment also had a commendable showing, thanks to Starlet (747), Corolla family of cars (Quest, Hatch and Sedan) with 600 units sold as well as Toyota’s mass appeal SUVs Fortuner (685) and Urban Cruiser (646).

The Land Cruiser pickup posted 247 units, Prado 69 and FJ Cruiser 14. The more niche Toyota, GR Supra, recorded 3 sales while the brand’s luxury arm Lexus posted a total of 45 units sold. Also, worth noting is Toyota’s newly-launched 22-seater bus, Coaster, which sold 25 units.

TSAM supplied just over 1.25 million parts’ pieces to the domestic market while a further 310,000 pieces were shipped beyond our borders.
