Ford South Africa has launched the latest iteration of its Transit Custom commercial vehicle range, starting with the introduction of the Base Long Wheelbase Van model. This new generation of one-ton vans aims to assist small and medium businesses in reducing ownership costs, improving productivity, and enhancing overall efficiency. Designed based on extensive research and customer feedback, the Transit Custom features a new platform that prioritizes load carrying capacity, accessibility, and performance.

    Design

The Transit Custom’s design focuses on maximizing productivity while ensuring driver comfort and convenience. With a stiffer yet lighter platform compared to its predecessor, the new model offers increased cargo capacity and improved fuel efficiency. Its aerodynamic design and reduced frontal area contribute to better fuel economy, while the lower overall height enhances accessibility in height-restricted areas such as multi-storey car parks and loading bays.

    The cabin

Inside, it gets a large 13-inch touchscreen, angled towards the driver for ease of use, and boasts Ford’s latest SYNC 4 infotainment system. The infotainment is equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with embedded satellite navigation.

    Powertrain

Under the hood, the Transit Custom is powered by Ford’s 2.0-litre Single Turbo EcoBlue diesel engine, that produces 100kW/360Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, offering selectable drive modes for different operating conditions.

    Safety

In terms of safety, the Transit Custom equipped with a range of active and passive safety features, including ABS brakes, Dynamic Stability Control, and driver assistance technologies like Lane Keeping Aid and Forward Collision Warning.
