South Africa’s ever-rising fuel prices has prompted many citizens to look for more fuel-efficient cars. Last year, Isuzu SA came with an answer in the form of a 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine for their D-Max bakkie and MU-X adventure SUV. Also, in 2023, the automaker put proof to pudding by challenging local automotive media to drive the D-Max 1.9 TD Johannesburg to Cape Town on a single tank.

For this year’s One Tank Challenge, Isuzu SA has a bunch of MU-X 1.9 TD LS’ ready for the challenge. Selected media representatives will drive from Johannesburg to Gqeberha via East London, powered by a single tank of Engen Dynamic Diesel with Pro Drive, is again set to demonstrate the economical fuel consumption and money saving capabilities of the Isuzu MU-X 1.9 TD LS.

“This year, participants and spectators can expect an even better display of endurance and efficiency from both man and machine,” comments Kevin Fouché, Department Executive: Product Planning and Programme Management at Isuzu Motors South Africa. “As always, we aim to push boundaries while pacing ourselves in a bid to show how capable Isuzu vehicles are.”

The Isuzu MU-X 1.9 TD LS is powered by a 1,899 cc four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, which delivers 110kW at 3,600 rpm and 350Nm between 1 800 and 2 600rpm. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a claimed fuel consumption of 7.0l/100km.

Engen is proud to partner with Isuzu Motors South Africa for the 2024 One Tank Challenge. The brand is excited to showcase not only their Dynamic Diesel with Pro Drive fuel, but also their Quickshop retail convenience experience.

“At Engen, we recognise that driving is not just about the vehicle but also about the journey. We look forward to welcoming participants to Engen service stations where our Quickshop offerings will ensure that participants are well-fed, hydrated and road-ready.”

The One Tank Challenge will take face on the 27th till the 30th of April 2024.
