Mazda recently revealed its new BEV for the European market at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show – the all-new 6e which we saw in China at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show with an EZ-6 nameplate. The new 6e is a stylish mid-sized electric hatchback with a fastback saloon style.

    Exterior design and styling

Outside, the new 6e introduces the next evolution of Mazda’s ‘Kodo Soul of Motion’ design philosophy -‘Electrifying Design Crafted to Perfection’. Standout design details include smooth flowing lines and bold features, frameless doors, a bold lighting signature and integrated door handles, a new glowing signature wing lights around the grille, aerodynamically optimized five-spoke 19-inch wheels, stylish rear lamp design as well as a horizontal taillight bar, and an electronically extendable rear spoiler.

    Interior design and technology

Inside, the new 6e oozes luxury, modernity and minimalism. Designed to deliver sophisticated simplicity, the spacious interior is inspired by the Japanese concept of ‘Ma’ which emphasizes the beauty of space and the floating centre console and instrument panel enhance this sense of lightness. Premium materials feature throughout both the available trim levels: Takumi and Takumi Plus. Takumi models will feature beige or black artificial leather, while Takumi Plus offers premium tan Nappa leather.

Notable highlights include a two-tone, flat-bottom multifunctional steering wheel, a smart driver-focused cockpit featuring a 14.6-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch instrument set, an augmented reality head-up display, a wireless charger, a 64-color ambient lighting, a 330-litre rear luggage capacity and 70-litre “frunk”,  and a panoramic roof to name a few.

    EV powertrains

Available with two powertrain options to allow for customers differing preferences, the Mazda 6e is offered with a choice of 68.8kWh or 80kWh battery. The 68.8kWh version offers a range of up to 300miles (483 km) and with 200kW DC charging it charges from 10 to 80 per cent in just 22 minutes, meaning a range of 145miles (233 km) can be added in 15 minutes. The electric motor delivers 258ps (190kW) and has a claimed 0-62mph (100 km/h) performance of 7.6 seconds.

For customers prioritizing longer range usage the 80kWh version enables a range of up to 345miles (555 km) and with 244ps (179 kW) reaches 100 km/h in a claimed 7.8 seconds. Both versions produce the same 320Nm of torque with a rear-wheel drive layout. The longer range 80kWh Mazda 6e will charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 45 minutes and like the smaller battery version supports DC rapid charging.
