Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has reaffirmed its leadership in the local automotive market, reporting a robust rebound in new vehicle sales for June 2025. The legendary Hilux and the ever-popular Corolla Cross led the charge, contributing significantly to Toyota’s market share of 24.7%. Toyota’s performance aligns with naamsa’s projections of a “robust domestic performance”, signalling great momentum in a highly competitive landscape.

Toyota’s passenger vehicles segment remained dominant in June, recording 7 016 units. Surpassing the 2 000 mark, the locally produced Corolla Cross shifted gears to pole position as South Africa’s top-selling passenger vehicle. Other notable performances include the Toyota Fortuner (878 units) in 9th place and the Toyota Starlet (852 units) in 10th place. Selling 170 more units in comparison to May 2025, the Toyota Vitz maintained its strong come back with 794 units recorded in June 2025. Lexus continued its impressive premium performance, recording 104 units, with the NX and GX contributing 34 and 33 units respectively.

The Toyota Hilux’s consistent dominance of the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment continued with a 26.3% market share, moving 3 032 units in June 2025. In 6th place of the best-selling LCVs, the Land Cruiser 79 Pick-up shifted 591 units whilst the Toyota Hiace placed 7th, recording 524 units.

According to naamsa, the medium and heavy truck segments displayed overall mixed performance. Notwithstanding this, Toyota’s Hino 500 and 700’s combined sales increased to 139 units in comparison to May 2025.

June marked the best fleet sales month of 2025 for Toyota, with 3 931 units sold to business customers through the dealer network. Standout fleet models, including the Corolla Cross, Hilux Extra Cab, Toyota Fortuner and Land Cruiser Pick-Up delivered their strongest fleet performances of the year.
