The all-new Volvo ES90 is set to launch in South Africa in the first quarter of 2026, marking the arrival of the brand’s latest all-electric luxury sedan. The ES90 will expand Volvo Car South Africa’s electric line-up to six models, reinforcing the brand’s continued shift towards electrification.

Positioned as a premium electric sedan, the ES90 introduces a new design direction for Volvo, pairing a streamlined exterior with a modern, driver-focused cabin. The model has already been revealed globally and is expected to form part of Volvo’s next phase of electric vehicle offerings locally.

Three trim levels planned for South Africa

The ES90 will be offered in three trim levels locally: Core, Plus, and Ultra. At launch, however, the South African market will initially receive the flagship Ultra specification only, with additional variants expected to follow.

    Core
The entry-level Core specification focuses on comfort, safety, and everyday usability. Standard features include four-zone climate control, a panoramic roof, Nordico upholstery, power-adjustable heated front seats, and a power-operated tailgate. A range of driver assistance systems comes standard, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert, Lane Keeping Aid, and Collision Avoidance and Mitigation. Comprehensive passive safety features are also included, along with ISOFIX mounting points for child seats.

    Plus
Building on the Core specification, the Plus adds further comfort and customisation options. Enhancements include an advanced air purification system, expanded upholstery choices including Nappa leather, upgraded front seat adjustment with additional lumbar support, and higher-level interior lighting. Buyers can also specify optional features such as a 360-degree parking camera and Pilot Assist, as well as alternative interior décor finishes.

    Ultra
Sitting at the top of the range, the Ultra represents the most fully equipped ES90. It adds features such as tinted windows, an electrochromic panoramic roof, laminated glass, and soft-close power doors. Exclusive upholstery options include a tailored wool blend, while front seats gain massage functionality and adjustable side support. Rear passengers benefit from a power-adjustable reclining seat and luxury armrest. HD headlamps and a 360-degree parking camera are standard on the Ultra.

    Local availability

The Volvo ES90 is scheduled to arrive in South Africa in Q1 2026, with pricing, final specifications, and powertrain details to be confirmed closer to launch. The model will initially be offered exclusively in Ultra specification, with the broader range expected to follow at a later stage.
