Volkswagen introduces an all-electric model wearing the iconic GTI badge.
The international debut of the new ID. Polo GTI marks a new era, as this newly developed model becomes the first fully electric GTI. Volkswagen aims for the ID. Polo GTI to continue the legacy of the GTI name while moving into an electric future.
The design of the ID. Polo GTI takes inspiration from iconic features found on previous GTI models, such as the C-pillars inspired by the first-generation Golf. It is designed to remain instantly recognisable as both a Volkswagen and a GTI.
The new Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI features a sporty and modern design that stays true to the brand’s GTI heritage. Its silhouette follows the “Pure Positive” design language, combining clean proportions with a dynamic stance. The GTI also features IQ.LIGHT LED taillights with three-dimensional elements, while an illuminated red Volkswagen badge creates a distinctive rear signature at night.

The Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI is powered by the APP290 electric drive system. Energy is supplied by a 52kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack using Volkswagen Group’s latest cell-to-pack technology, delivering strong performance with a 166 kW and maximum torque output of 290Nm.
The electric hatchback offers a WLTP range of up to 424km on a single charge. It also supports DC fast charging at up to 105kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in around 24 minutes at a compatible fast-charging station.
The GTI’s proportions follow the “Pure Positive” design language, creating a compact sports car with 19-inch alloy wheels as standard. This design reflects proportions inspired by the original 1976 GTI.

Inside, the ID. Polo GTI features a sporty and stylish cabin with classic GTI design elements, where red and black dominate the interior. The cabin follows Volkswagen’s latest “Pure Positive” design philosophy, featuring a clean, horizontal dashboard layout. The 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit and 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen are positioned on the same visual axis, creating a sleek, driver-focused setup.
Volkswagen’s technology design also follows the “Pure Positive” philosophy, with the Digital Cockpit and infotainment display aligned for a modern and seamless user experience.
Thanks to its compact MEB+ electric platform, the ID. Polo GTI offers improved practicality. Boot space has increased significantly from 351 litres to 441 litres compared to the previous petrol-powered Polo GTI. With the rear seats folded down, luggage capacity expands to 1,240 litres, making the ID. Polo GTI more versatile than previous generations.
