Toyota South Africa Motors continued its strong run in April 2026, maintaining its position as the country’s top-selling brand with 10,188 vehicles sold and a 21.2% market share.

The result marks the fourth consecutive month that Toyota has led the local market, in a period still shaped by rising costs, fuel prices and increasing competition.

Across the industry, April saw total sales reach 47,979 units, with passenger cars making up the bulk of that figure. Light commercial vehicles and commercial segments also showed steady performance despite a shorter sales month due to public holidays.

Toyota remained active across all key segments. Passenger vehicles accounted for 5,873 units, while light commercial vehicles contributed 3,969 units. Medium and heavy commercial vehicles added a combined 346 units.

The Hilux once again led the charge, finishing April as South Africa’s best-selling vehicle with 2,955 units sold and a 28.9% share of its segment. Other strong performers included the Corolla Cross, Vitz, Rumion, Starlet and Fortuner.

In the commercial space, models like the Hiace, Land Cruiser 79 and Hino range continued to support Toyota’s presence, while its fleet business maintained momentum by serving more than 2,000 customers during the month.

Despite a challenging environment, April’s results suggest that demand remains steady, with Toyota continuing to hold a leading position across multiple segments of the local market.
