Toyota South Africa Motors strengthened its position as the country’s best-selling vehicle brand in June 2026, recording 12,417 new vehicle sales and increasing its market share to 22.8%.

The result comes during a strong month for the local automotive industry, with South Africa recording its best June new vehicle sales performance since 2007. According to the latest naamsa figures, 54,482 new vehicles were sold during the month, up 15.3% compared to June 2025.

Leading Toyota’s performance was the Hilux, which reclaimed its position as South Africa’s best-selling vehicle after recording 3,464 units in June, a notable increase from the 2,488 units sold in May.

The Corolla Cross remained Toyota’s best-selling passenger vehicle with 1,356 units, followed by the Urban Cruiser (1,174), Starlet (968), Vitz (921), and Fortuner (726). The recently launched RAV4 also enjoyed a promising start, recording 355 sales during the month, while the Land Cruiser FJ more than doubled its May performance with 264 units sold.

Toyota’s commercial vehicle line-up also contributed to the strong result. Alongside the Hilux, the Hiace recorded 591 sales, followed by the Land Cruiser Pick-up with 462 units. Hino’s medium and heavy commercial vehicle range also posted positive results, with a combined 229 units sold across its 300, 500, and 700 Series trucks.

In the premium segment, Lexus recorded 106 sales, led by the GX (36 units), NX (34 units), and LX (18 units).

With a broad product portfolio spanning passenger cars, SUVs, bakkies, commercial vehicles, and luxury models, Toyota continues to maintain a strong position in the South African market as the industry builds on its encouraging first-half performance.
