Volkswagen has introduced the new ID. Cross, an all-electric compact SUV that could appeal to South African motorists looking for a practical, technology-focused electric vehicle.

Design

The Volkswagen ID. Cross has a clean, modern design with a confident stance. Its long roofline, bold C-pillar, and distinctive front and rear lighting signatures give it a recognisable appearance.

Optional IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights and 3D LED rear lights add a more premium touch. Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalist design with fabric-covered surfaces, high-quality materials, and intuitive controls that create a welcoming environment.

Interior

Inside, the ID. Cross features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. Drivers can also select a retro display mode inspired by the original Volkswagen Golf.

Volkswagen says the SUV will be available with features such as Connected Travel Assist, one-pedal driving, a 360-degree camera system, and optional remote parking assistance. It also includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing owners to power or charge external devices, including e-bikes, directly from the battery.

The 52kWh version can tow trailers weighing up to 1,200kg.

The compact SUV seats five occupants and offers 475 litres of boot space, along with an additional 25-litre storage compartment under the bonnet for charging cables and smaller items, making it a practical option for everyday use.

Performance

The ID. Cross will be available with three power outputs: 85kW, 99kW, and 155kW, as well as two battery options: 37kWh and 52kWh.

The larger battery offers a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 427km, making it suitable for daily commuting and longer journeys between charging stops.
